Travel Documents

Check with your airline about necessary travel documents required – depending on the country you plan to visit – which may include following:

  • Valid Passport or any other recognized travel document, with expiry date beyond 6 months of the intended period of travel.
  • Visa - depending on your destination. Please check with the Embassy of the country that you plan to visit.
  • Travel Health Insurance Policy - depending on your destination.
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Proof of sufficient means of subsistence
  • Return Ticket

Due to COVID-19, travel requirements may be subject to changes at short notice.   You may visit the IATA (International Air Transport Association) website for travel advisories.  However, it is preferable to check with your airline or the embassy of your destination country for the latest travel advisory before your flight.

Customs

If you will travel with currency or bearer negotiable instruments (BNI) or precious stones and metals including gold, diamond and jewellery or any goods of high value including work of arts of an amount of more than 500,000 Mauritian rupees or its equivalent in foreign currency, you need to make a declaration to Customs.

Security

Security at SSR International Airport is a team effort. We work closely with Airports of Mauritius Ltd (AML) to make your airport experience as safe and efficient as possible. Knowing the security restrictions before you arrive at the airport can speed up your passage through security screening.    

Packing

  • The hand and hold luggage allowance, i.e. weight, quantity, size, etc, may vary from one airline to the other.   The weight should be stated on your air ticket.  Check with your airline when booking your air ticket to avoid any complications at check-in.
  • Ensure that you do not carry any prohibited items in your hand and hold luggage.  Know more...

Travelling with Minors

  • Check with your airline when you travel with your child(ren) as special rules may apply.

Special Assistance

  • Disability/Mobility Assistance – Check with your airline   for any special assistance at least 48 hours prior to your flight.
  • Unaccompanied Minors Assistance – Check with your airline for special assistance.  The Meeting point for unaccompanied minors is at the Exit of the Tour Operators Hall for arrivals and the check-in counter for departures.

Web Check-in

  • Check in via your airline website or app to receive your boarding pass before you get to the airport and proceed directly to your airline’s Baggage Drop Off counter. Mobile boarding passes are accepted.

Pets

Pets are not allowed in the Airport Terminal Building and Carpark.

COVID-19 Sanitary Protocol

You are encouraged to do a web/online check-in prior your arrival at the Airport to minimise face-to-face contact and crowding in Check-in Hall.

Travel with minimum hand luggage.

Drop Off

  • International flights (Level 1) - On entering the car park, take the International Departures lane, continue through the raised access road and drop off your passenger(s).
  • Rodrigues flights (Level 0) - On entering the car park, take the International Arrivals lane and drop off your passenger(s) at the Rodrigues drop off designated area.

Parking is not allowed in the drop off area.

Unattended Luggage

  • Make sure you do not leave your luggage unattended.
  • Please immediately report any unattended luggage to any Airport staff nearby or Airport Security on +230 603 6180

Foreign visitors may claim for a refund of the VAT that they have paid on their shopping in Mauritius.  Only purchases from shops authorised by the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) and registered with the MCCI displaying the  Logo _tax _inner  sign are entitled to the refund.

Arrive early at the airport to allow for the VAT refund to be processed and goods to be inspected, if necessary.

  • Before proceeding to the check-in counter for your flight, present your purchased good(s) and get your VAT PAID SUPPLIES TO VISITORS (DF5) sales receipt(s) approved at the VAT Refund (MRA) Counter in the International Check-In Hall B.
  • After Immigration and Security control, present your approved VAT PAID SUPPLIES TO VISITORS (DF5) sales receipt(s) at the MCCI Tax Refund Counter, opposite Boarding Gate 19, and collect your refund.

Refundable Amount

  • No refund shall be made where the amount refundable before deduction of administrative charges is less than 300 Mauritian Rupees in respect of purchases made in one shop. 
  • For every refund, a deduction of 2% on sales value before duties/taxes shall apply for administrative charges.  
  • VAT refund is made in the following currencies: Euro (EUR), British Pound (GBP), US dollar (USD) and South African Rand (ZAR).

Around fifty shops in Mauritius provide duty free and duty paid facilities and to benefit from these facilities, goods must be purchased from shops displaying the Logo _tax _inner sign.

Cabin/Hand Carry Items (less than 7kg)

Present your DFA sales receipt to the MCCI Tax Refund Counter for collection of your duty free items.

Hold Luggage Items (more than 7kg)

Hold luggage items will be delivered in the International Check-In Hall further to prior arrangement with the Shop Operator and MCCI.

Change any currency prior to entering the Immigration area.  Currency Exchange services are not available after Immigration.

The Departure Hall for Rodrigues is located at Level 0.  The International Departure Hall is located at Level 1.  

Check-In

  • Check-In Counters generally open three hours and close one hour prior to the Scheduled Time of Departure (STD).
  • Check your departure flight info on this website or the flight information displays in the Check-In Halls to know which Check-In Counter(s) you should proceed to.

Self-Check-In

  • Self-Check-In Kiosks are available in the International Check-In Halls for Air Mauritius, Air France, South African Airways, British Airways, Corsair and KLM only.
  • You may use these to print your boarding pass before proceeding to your airline’s Baggage Drop Off counter.

Note: Self-Check-In Kiosks are offline until further notice.

Web Check-In

  • If you have checked in via your airline website or app, proceed directly to your airline’s Baggage Drop Off counter.
  • Mobile boarding passes are accepted.

Prior to entering the Immigration Zone,

  • Dispose of any water or liquid bottles.
  • Scan your boarding pass at any of the two readers at the entrance.  The bar code on the boarding pass should centred on the red (+) laser projection.  

Present your passport and boarding pass at the Immigration Counter.

Premium Counters are available for Business Class passengers.

You are required to undergo security screening and have your hand luggage x-rayed.  Follow the steps below for a hassle-free experience:

  • Place LAGs (liquids, aerosols and gels) in a clear re-sealable plastic bag.  LAGs exceeding 100ml are not allowed in hand luggage.
  • If you have high heel shoes, a jacket or a belt with a metal buckle, please remove them and place in a security tray.
  • Remove your laptop, tablet and/or smartphone and metallic objects from your hand luggage and place in a separate security tray.  Knives, scissors, nail cutters, etc. are not allowed in hand luggage.
  • Present your passport and boarding pass to the Security Officer.
  • Proceed through the walkthrough metal detector. Please note that you may further be required to undergo an enhanced security screening process.

Dans le cadre de leurs efforts continus pour renforcer la sécurité aérienne, AML et ATOL informent les passagers qu’un nouveau Scanner Corporel a été déployé à l’Aéroport International SSR. Lors de la phase initiale de familiarisation, seuls certains passagers sélectionnés de façon aléatoire, seront dirigés vers le scanner, tandis que les autres continueront à suivre les procédures de contrôle standard. Nous tenons à rassurer tous les passagers que cette technologie de pointe est sûre, non invasive et conçue pour protéger la vie privée des passagers, tout en offrant une expérience plus fluide et confortable pour tous. AML et ATOL remercient tous les passagers de leur compréhension et de leur collaboration.

English Version

As part of ongoing efforts to enhance aviation security, AML and ATOL are pleased to inform passengers that a new Whole Body Scanner has been deployed at SSR International Airport. During the initial testing phase, only randomly selected passengers will be directed through the scanner, while the rest will proceed with the standard screening procedures. We wish to reassure all passengers that this advanced scanning technology is safe for all passengers, is non-invasive and is also designed to uphold passenger privacy, while ensuring a smoother and more comfortable experience for all.
